Abstract
This study, prepared pursuant to Public Act 79-790, examines the economic impacts expected to result from the application of noise limitation standards to the impact forging industry in Illinois. Section I of the study reviews the background of the problem and alternative remedies that have been proposed. Section II assesses the costs on state and local government and on Illinois agriculture. The potential effects on prices, employment, and industrial activity are also considered. Section III of the study reviews the benefits that alternative reductions in forging noise might be expected to bring, provides a measure of these benefits, and compares benefits with costs on both an overall and an incremental basis.
