Abstract |
This document has been developed based on a review of current practices used by industry to prevent release of toxic and hazardous substances to receiving waters from non-point sources. Including in the review were published articles and reports, technical bulletins on specific compounds, and discussions with industry through telephone contacts, routine questionaires, and site visits. The information available on current Best Management Practices was evaluated and grouped into general categories of baseline and advanced concepts. BMPs were related to pollutant sources and physical and chemical properties of the compounds. A classification scheme was developed for the toxicant hazardous substances, based on important physical and chemical properties revelent to identification of applicable BMP alternatives. The method of identifying BMPs based on chemical and source is presented. |
