Abstract |
The study accumulates, organizes, and reports pertinent engineering information on various types of scrubbers which would be technically feasible for use as a chemical contactor in the S and W/Ionics sulfur dioxide removal and recovery process. The S and W/Ionics sulfur dioxide recovery process includes a sulfur dioxide scrubber in which sulfur dioxide is absorbed in a sodium hydroxide solution to form a sodium sulfite/sodium bisulfite solution which is sent to a neutralization stage. The scope of the study which is described in this report did not allow time or money for any experimental work. It is anticipated that the results of the study will narrow the selection of scrubber types to one or two and that some experimental work may be necessary before the detailed design of a prototype begins.
