Abstract | The report describes a computer model developed by TVA to simulate the performance and determine the economics of coal cleaning, or coal cleaning combined with flue gas desulfurization (FGD), for power plant emission control processes over a wide range of user-specified conditions. The model also calculates the other economic benefits and penalties to overall power plant operation that result from the use of cleaned coal. The report describes: (1) the programs composing the model, (2) the design and economic premises on which the calculations performed by the model are based, (3) the designs for the coal-cleaning and the FGD processes, and (4) the economic benefits and penalties associated with the use of cleaned coal by a power plant. A variety of cases were simulated, and selected results from these runs are described. |
