Abstract |
This report analyzes the material properties and system parameters relevant to the pneumatic conveying of municipal solid waste and its processed fractions. Comparisons are made with the conveying of conventional industrial feedstocks, and a rationale for sizing and specification of a pneumatic conveying test rig is developed. The test assembly is to be used at solid rates ranging from a few to 20 to 30 Mg/h, on materials such as shredded municipal solid waste, refuse-derived fuel, canstock, etc., to study the dependency of the operating parameters and conditions on the conveying velocity, solids-to-air ratio, and product characteristics. Cost and sizing of the conveying test rig is established from this analysis and from manufacturers' quotes. Tradeoffs between outright purchase and testing for a fee are examined. |
