Abstract |
The value of the recreational uses of the Hempstead Estuary to the residents of the Town of Hempstead is derived. This estimate has two major components. The first is the consumers' surplus which accrues to those utilizing the estuary for fishing and boating, the major recreational activities in the estuary; this is derived from econometric demand equations for these activities. The second component of the value of annual services of the estuary is derived by calculating the differential in land values of land located on the estuary over nearby comparable parcels not on the estuary. This capital value is converted to an annual value-flow of services of the estuary by use of an appropriate discount rate. (Author) |
