Abstract
The report concerns the program of off-site radiological surveillance conducted throughout Operation Nougat by the U.S. Public Health Service for the Atomic Energy Commission in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding between the two agencies. The philosophy upon which the Off-Site Radiological Safety Program is based, the field and laboratory methods and equipment used, the measurements made, and the results obtained from off-site surveillance of the seven releases are described. No cases of alleged radiation sickness or injury to people, livestock, or property were noticed by or brought to the attention of the Public Health Service during the Operation. The results of surveillance presented in this report indicate that the safety criteria established by the AEC for the off-site population were not exceeded during Operation Nougat.
