Abstract
Expertise from the fields of hydrology and operations research is combined to produce a 'State Water-Planning Model'. Begun in September 1968, completion is scheduled for September 1972. The mathematical model, intended for solution by digital computer, is being designed for the Water Resources Division of the State of Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. The model, operated in combination with a computerized data bank, will provide a system which can be interrogated to determine quickly and accurately the likely effects of proposed changes in management practices on the State's water regime. The expansion and application of the methodology to that portion of the Yellowstone River Basin which lies within the State of Montana are described in Part II. An annual model, seasonal model and monthly model--developed for the entire Yellowstone Basin--constitutes the second phase. (Author)
