Abstract
The Factor Information Retrieval (FIRE) system is a database management system for a database of air pollutant emission factors. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has compiled emission factors from a number of source categories to be used to derive approximations of pollutant emissions for a given emission source. Emission factors are not intended to represent actual emissions, but are used to estimate air pollutant emissions when no actual emission data are available. The FIRE database management system is a program designed to provide easy access to a database of emission factors. The FIRE database contains emission factors for 97 of the 189 hazardous air pollutant (HAPs) designated by the Clean Air Act (CAA) 'criteria' pollutants. The FIRE system is a menu-driven system with a user interface patterned after Microsoft Windows.
