Abstract
This research project sought to examine whether vulnerability indicators have an impact on the potential association between outdoor air pollution exposure and adverse birth outcomes such as low birth weight and risk of pre-term birth. This R9 RARE grant project built upon a recently completed project funded by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) that is developing an environmental justice screening methodology which combines environmental hazard indicators with measures of social vulnerability to geographically identify neighborhoods of potential regulatory concern for environmental justice. This R9 RARE grant supported work examined the relationship between traffic-related air pollutant exposure and adverse birth outcomes.
