Abstract
The report examines acid generation prediction methods as they apply to non-coal mining sites. Following a brief review of acid forming processes at mine sites, the report summarizes the current methods used to predict acid formation including sampling, testing, and modeling. Selected state requirements for testing the potential of mining wastes to generate acid are summarized. Case histories from active mining sites and sites on the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL) are also presented. It is hoped that this report will assist states and the mining industry in their use of predictive methods.
