This document, the sixth in a series of National Water Quality Inventories published since 1975, summarizes water quality reports submitted by the States and other jurisdictions of the United States in 1986. These State reports are submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) pursuant to Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act. All States and jurisdictions submitted reports in time of their inclusion in the tables, figures, and text of this document. It should be noted that some of the State reports on which this document is based were submitted in draft form and may contain additional information in their final form. The State reports for the most part reflect field data collected in 1984 and 1985 and were written before the passage of the Water Quality Act of 1987.
