Abstract
This study was conducted to analyze the impact of natural gas shortages on major fuel burning installations. The analysis estimated the availability of natural gas through 1980 for major fuel burning installations, the alternate fuel burning capability of these plants, the need for alternate fuels such as fuel oil and coal to offset the gas shortages and the estimated increase in sulfur dioxide and particulate emissions from the burning of these alternate fuels. The study results are presented in a three volume report: Volume 1 contains the narrative for the analysis of natural gas shorages on the gas fired plants with pertinent findings and conclusions.
