Abstract
Chemical concentrations of chloride and selected nitrogen parameters were measured in the area near the western shore of Lake Erie over the period of May, 1970 to June, 1975. Samples were taken at six stations in Lake Erie in the vicinity of the Detroit Edison Monroe Power Plant as well as in the Raisin River and the power plant discharge canal. The study began one year before the power plant began operating and continued until full operation was reached. Chloride was used as a conservative element to determine the relative contributions of the three major tributaries in the study area, the Detroit, Maumee, and Raisin Rivers. Changes in nitrogen parameter concentrations were noted with respect to chloride concentrations.
