EPA is proposing issuance of a NPDES permit to TUGCO for discharge of cooling water from two 750 Mw power generating units into Duck Creek, a tributary of the Navasota River. Approximately 3400 acres will be utilized for the power plant site, including 2330 acres for a cooling reservoir constructed on Duck Creek. Make-up water to fill or supplement the reservoir will be pumped via a 12-mile pipeline from Lake Limestone. Wastes such as bottom ash, fly ash, and other solids will be disposed in on-site landfills. Electricity will be conveyed from the power plant by a transmission system containing 3089 acres of right-of-way. Lignite to fuel the plant will be transported 8 miles by trains from the 3 deposits totaling approximately 33,000 acres. The power plant will require 280 million tons of lignite during the 35-year life of the project. |
