| Abstract |
In August 1988, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed Solid Waste Disposal Facilities Criteria (40 CFR Part 258) for municipal solid waste landfills. The background document provides the technical support for the closure, post- closure core and financial responsibility requirements. The requirements are part of the operating requirements of Part 258. The document contains a discussion of background information and provides detailed information on the revised closure, post-closure, and financial responsibility requirements. The document addresses; (1) closure and post-closure performance stand; (2) closure and post-closure plans; (3) financial assurance criteria for closure, post-closure and corrective action for known releases; and (4) financial assurance mechanisms that are available to owners or operators of municipal solid waste landfills. |
