Abstract
An analysis of the potential closure impact of increased costs associated with water pollution control on twelve (12) model steel plants patterned after twelve domestic steel plants identified as likely to be most seriously affected by the final iron and steel effluent guidelines. The additional costs associated with the regulation ranged from $0.21 to $2.60 per net ton and averaged only $0.82 per net ton. It was concluded that cost increases of this magnitude would be unlikely to force the closure of any of the model plant configurations or processes that were analyzed.
