Abstract
The report provides information to help designers, operators, and control agencies achieve and maintain good sanitary landfill practices. Recommendations suggest basic requirements involved in designing and constructing a sanitary landfill. An evaluation method has been developed to measure the level of acceptability of the operations taking place at a disposal site and to provide a comparison of its suitability with that of other evaluated sites. The evaluation provides a tool that a community, organization, consultant, or citizen can use to judge the design and construction of any site under consideration. Also presented are provisions which should be included in instructions to landfill bidders. A model sanitary landfill operation agreement form is shown.
