Abstract
The study evaluates the utility of two hydrologic models in designing stable landfill cover systems. The models evaluated were HELP (Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance) and CREAMS (Chemicals, Runoff, and Erosion from Agricultural Management Systems). Studies of parameters for land disposal unit design at several sites, assuming a variety of regionally possible plant covers were carried out. Establishment of a vegetative community consisting of a mix of native plant species will result in the most stable cover that is also the most efficient in removing water from the soil profile.
