Abstract
The 7,400-acre Naval Air Engineering Center (NAEC) site is an active air base in Jackson and Manchester Townships, Ocean County, New Jersey. Activities conducted onsite include program research, engineering, development testing and evaluation, and various warfare support services. In 1921, the U.S. Navy took control of the site and conducted operations involving the use, handling, storage, and onsite disposal of hazardous substances in various onsite buildings. The Record of Decision addresses Operable Unit 3, which includes eight separate sites and a region known as Area L. At most sites, contaminants were not detected. In instances where contaminants were detected the levels were usually well below State and Federal action levels. Therefore, there are no contaminants of concern affecting the site. The selected remedial action for the site includes no further action because no significant levels of contaminants exist at the eight sites and Area L.
