Abstract
The Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) No. 915 site is an active semiconductor manufacturing facility in Santa Clara County, California. The site consists of approximately 5 acres and contains three physical structures, the largest of which is a 116,000-square-feet building known as AMD 915. Ground water from the basin provides up to 50 percent of the municipal drinking water for 1.4 million residents of the Santa Clara Valley. Eleven chemical storage or treatment areas have been documented at the AMD 915 facility including three underground acid neutralization systems, two above-ground drum storage areas, and six underground tank complexes. Records indicate that solvent wastes and other materials were stored in underground tanks, and as many as 28 separate underground tanks may have been in service at various times. The Record of Decision (ROD) addresses remediation of onsite contaminated ground water. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the ground water are VOcs including benzene, TCE, toluene, and xylenes; other organics; and metals including arsenic and chromium. The selected remedial action for the site is included.
