| Abstract |
The 3.5-acre Darling Hill Dump site is an inactive solid waste disposal facility in the town of Lyndon, Caledonia County, Vermont. Approximately 3,200 residents within the area are served by the Lyndonville Municipal Well Field, located within 0.5 mile to the southwest. As a result of detecting low levels of VOCs in the ground water at the Lyndonville Municipal Wellfield, a number of investigations were performed by EPA and the state, which revealed VOCs and metals in the ground water and soil at the site. Subsequent investigations have revealed that the pumping of the municipal wells inhibits flow of contaminants past the wellfield and that the site is neither contaminating area surface waters nor posing a significant physical hazard to area residences. The ROD addresses continued monitoring of ground water, surface water, and sediments at the Darling Hill Dump Site. The results of the RI show that the levels of organic compounds and metals do not appear to pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. Therefore, there are no contaminants of concern affecting the site. The selected remedial action for the site includes no further action because significant levels of contaminants are not present at the site. |
