Abstract
A review of Federal, State, and Local government methods to delineate surface water source water protection areas (SWPAs) in watersheds or basins, indicates the primarily three methods have been used. These methods are: topographic boundary delineation; setback/buffer zone delineation; and time-of-travel calculation. Modeling techniques have been used to enhance these three methods. A summary of these methods is presented in this report. Many of the methods, or approaches, described in this document can be used to delineate subunits of a surface water SWPA.
