Abstract
The Drilling Fluids Hazard Assessment Program carried out by the Office of Research and Development of the Environmental Protection Agency is presented, from its initiation in 1976 to the planned tasks for Fiscal Year 1982. This synopsis includes discussions on program origins, statutory mandates, program goals and objectives and the rationale and strategy for the research conducted. A summary of the research results to date and the direction of the final year of the program is included.
