Abstract
The monitoring component of the Field Verification Program (FVP) ultimately provides a 'real world' test for assessing the rest of the project. It is a research effort, as are the other components of this program. The objective is to evaluate the hazard assessment strategy and to recommend the application of monitoring tools in several other specific areas: (1) linkage of measurements and responses between laboratory and field; (2) permit applications; (3) compliance monitoring. To reach these objectives, traditional tools, such as benthic community analysis, are being compared to more recently developed approaches, such as the REMOTS interface camera.
