Abstract |
The chromosome complement for the marine worm, Nephtysincisa is described for the first time. The karyotype consists of 19 pairs: four pairs have median centromeres; three pairs have submedian centromeres; and twelve pairs have subterminal centromeres. The chromosomes are relatively large, ranging in size from 4 to 11 micrometers. The large size permits application of special techniques such as sister chromatid exchange. The usefulness of the application is demonstrated with a case study that evaluates environmental impacts of contaminated dredge material. |
