Abstract
Marasol 3045 was administered orally to two groups of ten rats at 3000 and 5000 mg/kg. Signs observed included: piloerection, ptosis, salivation, decreased activity, hunched body position, prostration, labored respiration, discharge around anus (orange-red), flaccid body tone, lacrimation and diarrhea. None of the rats died at 3000 mg/kg. Three of ten rats died at 5000 mg/kg. Necropsy of those animals dying on study revealed bright red lungs, fluid-filled intestines, discolored urine, discoloration of stomach mucosa. Terminal necropsy revealed blanched lungs in one rat at 5000 mg/kg. No visible lesions were present in any remaining animal at study termination. The estimated acute oral LD50 for Marasol 3045 is greater than 5000 mg/kg.
