Abstract
The process utilizes steam removal and distillation for recovery of the solvent. A solvent recovery system was installed at an audio/video tape production plant in Hong Kong to reduce the solvent emissions. The combined solvent recovery/distillation unit handles 12,000 CFM of solvent-laden air. The presence of ketones presented a design consideration due to their solubility in water. The distillation unit utilized steam to remove solvent at concentrations of up to 98 percent. The solvent is reused directly in the tape manufacturing process, while the separated water is recycled back to the distillation system.
