Abstract
The purpose of this study is two-fold: (1) to establish a scientific baseline that evaluates the life-cycle environmental impacts of active matrix liquid crystal display (LCD) and cathode ray tube (CRT) technologies for desktop computers, by combining LCA and CTSA methodologies; and (2) to develop a model that can be used with updated data for future lifecycle analyses. This study is designed to provide the electronics industry with information needed to improve the environmental attributes of desktop computer displays. The evaluation considers impacts related to material consumption, energy, air resources, water resources, landfills, human toxicity, and ecological toxicity.
