Abstract |
A detailed derivation of the equations describing the generation of turbulence and the transport of pollutants in the atmosphere is given. The equations are closed at the order of the second-order turbulent correlations through the use of models of the higher-order correlations. The resulting invariant second-order closure model is applied to three problems: (1) the generation of turbulence in the surface layer (computed results are compared with AFCRL experimental data); (2) the transport of passive pollutants in the atmosphere (computed results are compared with experimental data and suggestions for improving the model are made); (3) the complete planetary boundary layer for the case of neutral stability for both smooth and rough surfaces. The results of computations are compared with the results of previous investigations. |
