| Abstract |
The purpose of this document is to provide a basic understanding of the potential sources of external contamination in uncovered finished water reservoirs and to provide guidance to water treatment operators for evaluating and maintaining water quality in these reservoirs. To achieve these objectives, this document discusses: existing regulations and policies pertaining to uncovered reservoirs; developing a reservoir management plan; potential sources of water quality degradation and contamination; operation and maintenance of reservoirs to maintain water quality; and mitigating potential water quality degradation. This guidance document is based on a review of current literature and includes case studies of four large potable water utilties in the United States. |
