Abstract
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is conducting a scientific reassessment of the risks of exposure to 2,3,7,8- tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) and chemically similar compounds collectively known as dioxin. Extensive evidence has accumulated over the past 20 years to demonstrate that the immune systems of several species are a target for toxicity of TCDD and structurally related halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons, including the chlorinated dibenzofurans, polychlorinated biphenyls, and polybrominated biphenyls.
