Abstract |
This report documents the results of a field study carried out in Baytown, Texas in August 1993. One goal of the field study was to evaluate calibration and audit procedures for a differential optical absorption spectrometry (DOAS) system. The other major goal of the study was to compare the long-path DOAS and traditional point monitor systems in an area with elevated pollutant levels. The gases being measured were SO2, NO2, and O3. Two separate DOAS systems were operated and compared to the measurements of two sets of point monitoring systems. The DOAS was readily calibrated in the field using the apparatus constructed for this study. It was possible to simultaneously calibrate both the DOAS and the point monitor systems at the end of the study indicated no significant change in calibration. The agreement between the two DOAS systems and between the two point monitoring systems was excellent. |
