Abstract |
The data presented in this paper show that phenobarbital decreases the storage level of dieldrin in fat without any appreciable effect on the concentration of the pesticide in liver. The decreased level in fat may be explained on the basis of an increased liver microsomal enzyme activity. As the metabolic turnover in the liver increases, more of the metabolized pesticide is excreted and less dieldrin is channeled to the fat depots. The rate of liver metabolism of dieldrin does not appear to be a limiting factor in the storage of dieldrin in the liver itself. It is safe to assume that, in conrast to fat, the presence of dieldrin in the liver is more dependent upon dosage and fatty content than upon rate of biotransformation. |
