Abstract
Propylene dichloride was evaluated for mutagenicity in groups of 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats fed concentrations of 0, 0.024, 0.10%, or 0.24% in the diet for 14 weeks, then mated to pairs of untreated adult females each week for 2 weeks. Female rats were killed 14 days after the middle of the breeding period for evaluation of dominant lethal effects by measurement of resorption rate. High-concentration males had decreased water consumption and mid- and high- concentration males had decreased body weight. The treatment had no adverse effects on male fertility as determined by mating performance or resorption rate. The treatmentdid not induce a dominant lethal effect, indicating that the test compound was not mutagenic to male germ cells in rats under the conditions of this assay.
