Abstract
Processes for removing and recovering sulfur from refinery fuel gas are reviewed. Flowsheets, heat and material balances for Claus sulfur recovery plants and commercially available processes for sulfur removal from Claus tail gas are presented. Statistics on sulfur recovery systems in refineries are presented for 1973 and projected for 1975. The environmental impact of tail gas processes including emission reduction, liquid and solid by-products, and energy consumption is discussed.
