| Abstract |
The objective of the planning guide is to assist federal and state remedial managers, local agencies, private cleanup companies, and supporting contractors in the remedial decision-making process at contaminated sediment sites. It attempts to accomplish the following: define the characteristics of contaminated sediments and of surrounding water bodies that affect remedy selection, provide a streamlined process for selecting an appropriate remedy, describe commonly-selected conventional remedies and potentially applicable innovative technologies. Current literature on processing contaminated sediment has provided the generic content in the guide. The sediment-specific data has been consolidated for easy reference. It brings together conventional options and potential alternatives appropriate to these sites; it provides treatability study data and examples drawn from relevant case studies. |
