Abstract
The application of a 20% concentration of the Antioxidant in polyethylene glycol under a gauze pad, to the skin of ten man for 98 hours, produced no significant irritation. Subsequent patch tests on fifty adult males using the some concentration, and repeated applications to a site irritated by freezing yielded one case of weak but definite sensitization. It is concluded that dermatitis from this product would be anticipated only in highly susceptible individuals and only after prolonged and severe exposures. The application of a test dose of 0.4 gm./Kg of the Antioxidant as a 10% solution in Wesson Oil to the rabbit skin, and held in contact with the aninals for 18 hours, produced only a slight generalized crythema which vanished in 48 hours. Six doses repeated on alternate days produced progressively severe irritation. At sacrifices and autopsy following the skin applications, no signs of systemic toxicity and no significant gross pathology were observed.
