Abstract |
The Region, for purposes of this study, encompasses the three metropolitan areas of Philadelphia-Camden, Trenton, and Wilmington, located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware respectively. The study of meteorology and air pollution in the 11-county lower Delaware Valley area has involved in investigation of (a) the availability of data and the existing and needed observational network; (b) the monthly and annual air flow over the basin area; (c) the stability conditions (frequency and distribution of inversions and mean mixing depths) that would influence the rate of mixing of the air with elevation; (d) the varying air quality over the basin and its relation to synoptic meteorologic conditions; (e) the possibility of using meteorologic conditions to forecast limiting pollution episodes; and (f) detailed interpretation of several specific high pollution events. |
