Abstract |
The report is a user guide to the Liquid Effluents Data System (LEDS), a computerized data base on liquid effluents (or wastewater) from stationary point sources. The LEDS is one of four waste stream data bases which are components of the Environmental Assessment Data Systems (EADS). The EADS concept has been designed to aid researchers in environmental assessment, emissions characterization, and control technology development. LEDS contains data from source sampling which may include: conventional wastewater pollutant concentrations; design and typical operating data on control technology applied to the liquid effluent stream; analysis of any fuel or feedstock to the process producing the effluent stream; results of chemical, physical, radiological, and biological/ecological tests of liquid samples; process descriptions of the sources; and descriptions of the sampling equipment and techniques employed. The LEDS protocol is consistent with Level 1 and 2 reporting requirements. The guide gives detailed instructions for encoding LEDS data sets, defines procedures for submitting and retrieving data, and contains standard nomenclature to facilitate data encoding. It also contains a program library that describes analytical software available to the user and provides instructions for its use. It also discusses ways for the user to access LEDS. |
