Abstract
This construction nonpoint source pollution control guidance document is only one of a series designed to provide State and areawide 208 Agencies, the Federal agencies, and other concerned groups and individuals with information which will assist them in carrying out their water-quality planning and implementation responsibilities. It is provided in accordance with policies and procedures for the 'Preparation of Water Quality Management Plans' (40 CFR, Part 131) which states that 'EPA will prepare guidelines concerning the development of water quality management plans to assist State and areawide planning agencies in carrying out the provisions of these regulations'. The basic guidance information included in this nonpoint source control document is principally technical in nature and presented in four main chapters. They include information on the identification and assessment of existing construction nonpoint source problems; analysis and procedures needed for selection of controls; descriptions of individual and systems of Best Management Practices (BMP), with a method for determining their effectiveness; and several methods for predicting potential pollution problems from future construction activities.
