Abstract
The EPA Quality System defined in EPA Order 5360.1 A2 (EPA, 2000d), Policy and Program Requirements for the Mandatory Agency-wide Quality System, includes coverage of environmental data produced from models. Environmental data includes any measurement or information that describe environmental processes, location, or conditions; ecological or health effects and consequences; or the performance of environmental technology. For EPA, environmental data includes information collected directly from measurements, produced from models, and compiled from other sources such as databases or literature. The EPA Quality System is based on an American National Standard, ANSI/ASQC E4-1994. Consistent with the National Standard, E4-1994, Section 6.a.(7) of EPA Order 5360.1 A2 states that EPA organizations will develop a Quality System that includes approved Quality Assurance (QA) Project Plans, or equivalent documents defined by the Quality Management Plan, for all applicable projects and tasks involving environmental data with review and approval having been made by the EPA QA Manager (or authorized representative defined in the Quality Management Plan).
