Abstract
This Record of Decision (ROD) documents the selected remedial action to reduce the risks posed by contaminated media at Sites 6 and 7 located at WPNSTA Yorktown, Yorktown, Virginia. The removal and treatment of soil/sediment and Building 109 residue at OU XIII, Site 6-Flume Area, and a soil cover at OU XIV, Site, 6-Excavated Area, address, the principal threat to human health and the environment by eliminating source materials and potential release of these contaminants to the environment. They also mitigate the potential for direct contact with soil at the Site 6-Excavated Area Long-term monitoring of sediment, surface water, and groundwater at OU XV will: (1) evaluate the efficacy of the removal planned for the Site-6 Flume Area in removing a potential source of continuing contaminant release and (2) provide temporal data about conditions in the Site 6-Impoundment Area and the quality of shallow groundwater which may interconnect with Sites 6 and 7 surface water and sediments.
