| Abstract |
Most new thermal power plants will use cooling devices. The economic impact of cooling, how it affects the power industry and the consumer, is discussed. Data and analyses show that the cost of providing thermal pollution control is not a restrictive factor in the production of electricity. Incremental increases in the production cost of electricity from plants with closed-cycle cooling over those with once-through fresh-water cooling are not excessive. More importantly, the impact of thermal pollution control on the consumer cost of electricity is minimal. (Author) |
