Abstract |
A basic proposition of economic theory is that when the price of a good increases, other things being equal, the quantity of that good purchased will decrease. For some time now, economists have suggested that this relationship between price and quantity should be considered by policymakers and solid waste managers for efficient management of solid waste. The effects of pricing (e.g. changes in quantity, composition of the waste collected, impacts on resource recovery, litter, and economic efficiency) are empirical results from five (5) communities having several forms of user charges are presented. |
