Abstract |
The study was made by analyzing available data, interviewing officials in the larger and selected smaller cities and towns, and sending questionnaires to the remaining communities. Interview and questionnaire data were obtained for 116 of the 169 cities and towns which include 2,051,960 people or 89.3 percent of the State's population.The State is described with respect to population, topography, climatology, industry, transportation, refuse disposal practice, fuel usage, and use of radioactive materials. Air pollution factors are analyzed for the 25 largest cities and towns and their air pollution potential estimated. State and local air pollution laws are analyzed, a summary of local air pollution studies is given, and the State Department of Health records of air pollution investigations are examined. |
