Abstract |
Many federal agencies conduct surveys and censuses of the nation's population and institutions under a pledge of confidentiality. They must then publicly release the gathered information in such a way that responses are not disclosed. The information may be published in the form of microdata or of tabular data, and, for each form, there are strategies for protecting the data. More research into disclosure limitation for microdata and tabular data is needed to ensure that agencies release as much valuable information as possible without violating the confidentiality pledge. The paper contains an agenda for the research. |
