| Abstract |
Risk Communication is the process of informing people about hazards. Communicating risk is a two-way exchange in which you inform the target community of possible hazards, and also gather information from those affected by the risk. This two-way process allows the community to be informed about important issues surrounding a concern or risk, and also be part of the solution. The purpose of risk communication is to help residents of a particular community understand risk assessment and risk management, form scientifically valid perceptions of the likely hazards, and participate in making decisions about how the risk should be managed. Risk communications tools are developed to communicate to the public the magnitude of the risks involved in a particular situation and lay the ground-work for the trust that needs to be established between the community and the agency dealing with the risks involved. |
