Abstract |
The Waste Analysis, Sampling, Testing and Evaluation (WASTE) Program was initiated to identify the major source(s) of trace metals in the feed stream of a municipal solid wase (MSW) incinerator and to measure the partitioning of metals during the incinerations process. Seven different residue streams were sampled simultaneously over a 5 day period at the Burnaby Municipal Waste Incinerator Facility. The samples were subjected to laboratory testing to determine their chemical and leaching properties. In addition, test runs were conducted to determine the downstream effects on the quality of the residues and stack emissions when adding materials containing highly enriched concentrations of lead and cadmium. The chemical and leaching properties of the residues collected during the control runs are compared to the residue characteristics measured from the spiked run samples. |
