Abstract
Because of increasing fuel cost and tightening environmental regulations, alternative air pollution control technologies are being considered to replace or supplement expensive combustion control technologies. This technical bulletin addresses one of these technologies: bioreactors. Bioreactors use micro-organisms to destroy pollutants in air emission streams. Using publicly available data, this report presents information on commercially available bioreaction processes used to control airpollution; considers the limitations of bioreactors; assesses the effectiveness of bioreactors for removing pollutants; and provides information on the capital and operating costs of bioreactors.
